Welcome to www.mini-sailor.us

Welcome to my Mini Transat Building Website.

I have started to build a Didi Mini, designed by Dudley Dix of Dix Designs, from a renewable composite (plywood) boat kit CNC routed by Rainbow Boat Works.

As the guy on the Schick Razor commercials said, I liked the razor so much I bought the company. You can check out my new venture by clicking here => Third Coast Composites.Com.

Back at it. Have a deadline.
My Mini News TopicsHappy New Year.

It has been quite a while since I last updated this web site.

I have been really busy with Third Coast Composites.Com building a Carbon Fiber Mini 6.50 for the ReachNow Foundation, our molds for the eKo Series Mini 6.50 and our first eKo. We built the first deck, hull and are gluing in the interior. Things are really exciting there. Check out photo's here.

That said, I finished aligning the keel fin side plating with the internal stringers and drilled the holes for the plug welds. Now all I need is for my welder to come back from holiday vacation.

My goal is to finish the boat early this spring so I can compete in the Bermuda 1-2 in early June.  So watch for more frequent updates in 2009.

This is a picture of the keel ready to go to the welders.

There are a few more new pictures in the Photo Gallery. Check them out.

About 12 hours of work to get this ready.

Keel is almost finished....
My Mini News TopicsGot the keel back from the welders again.

This time all the struts were welded into the keel pin, plates on the top half were plug welded to the top half of the struts and the plate on the bottom is in place.

Not much going on with the Dix
My Mini News TopicsNot much happening lately on the Dix. Keel is still over at the welder's. Hope to get it back this coming week to fit the skins to it.

While waiting, I have talked to the sail makers, gathering a list of deck hardware and mast hardware, all needed to finish the boat.

I have been very busy with things over at ThirdCoastComposites.com building a Series Mini mold, so if you want a Dix Mini Kit, I can cut it for you, if you want a Rolland Series Mini Made in USA, I can build that for you as well. ;-)

More time to work on the keel.
My Mini News TopicsGot to work on the keel assembly some more this week. I almost finished forming the keel fin sides and took everything to the welder on Friday afternoon.

We looked at the leading edge and there was enough unevenness in the bend that I kept the sides and will work a bit more on them while he is welding the interior welds. He has to well the stringers, see earlier pictures of the internal keel structure to the keel pin and to the keel foot.

More pictures in the Photo Gallery.

Got to work for over 8 hours bending the keel on Thursday and Friday.

Got some time off from the shop and worked on the Mini today!
My Mini News TopicsI got to work on the keel side plates today. I set up a jig and use propane outdoor cookers to heat up the aluminum so I could bend the metal over the forms.
